Do the difficulties and struggles of life leave you feeling down or low and/or stressed? Perhaps you have even been diagnosed with depression by your GP and prescribed anti-depressants. Sometimes the struggles and difficulties we face in life get to a point where we realise we need help. People may choose to speak to a counsellor because they feel they cannot speak to their partner, friends or family about such personal issues, or they may simply wish to speak to a professional with an objective viewpoint.
As a counsellor I would work with you to help you understand yourself better and the way you think, which will ultimately help you develop a clearer understanding of your problems. The more armed with information you are, the easier it gradually becomes to navigate your way through any difficulties you are facing, so that eventually you can come out the other side feeling more positive.
For many of the people I work with, difficulties in relationships with partners, friends, family or colleagues are identified as an underlying cause. If this was the case for you I would also work with you to explore the other person's motivations and behaviours which often sheds light on the way you interpret words or actions and helps you improve your relationships.
It can be daunting to take the step of approaching a counsellor. I know that and aim to provide a supportive, non-judgemental and confidential environment in which you can talk about anything.
I am trained in a variety of counselling, psychotherapy and coaching approaches and as I get to understand your situation and preferences I tailor the approach to you. Sometimes a more focused, structured approach, such as CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) or IPT (Interpersonal Psychotherapy) might be appropriate whereas other times something more exploratory may be called for. However, this is all done in collaboration with you - you will not have a particular approach forced on you.
I have a Masters degree in Psychology and a Post-graduate diploma in Counselling. I am registered and accredited with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and with the UK professional body for Interpersonal Psychotherapists (UKIPT). I have been working as a counsellor since 2011.
I'm based near Farnham on the Surrey/Hampshire border and currently working via Zoom and telephone
During the first session I would start by asking for a few basic details about you. We would then discuss what has brought you to counselling and what you might already have tried to help yourself. Towards the end of the session we would discuss the way forward.
Throughout the first (and subsequent) sessions please feel free to raise any queries or worries you might have about counselling - I know it can be daunting to start counselling.
Appointments are available Mondays and Tuesdays via Zoom or telephone. Each counselling session is 1 hour and the fee is £60.
